What to expect at the Minster Inn

Opening in 1903, the Minster Inn is a charming pub that has retained many of its Edwardian features. The four rooms, two on each side of a central corridor, are cosy and traditional, with beautiful original doors, windows and tiles. Woodburning stoves in the two rooms at the front of the building provide the perfect retreat from chilly winter evenings, whilst an ample beer garden to the rear is the ideal place to drink and eat pizza in the sun.

What’s to drink at the Minster Inn?

Beer at the Minster Inn is consistently great, flying the flag for local breweries on its 5 rotating guest pumps; Brew York, Ossett Brewery and Ilkley Brewery are regular additions. Premium lagers, IPA, cider and Guinness are permanently on tap, as well as spirits, wines and a generous cocktail menu featuring classics, house specials and pitchers. We had Ossett’s Blonde and Three Swords by Kirkstall Brewery, both of which we highly recommend.

What’s to eat at the Minster Inn?

Alongside its exemplary beer, pizza is the other big draw of the Minster Inn – “A match made in heaven”, as the neon sign in the beer garden reminds us. Their stone-baked pizzas, made in-house, are hugely popular; booking is recommended on evenings and weekends, and the weekday daytime buy-one-pizza-get-one-free offer is great value. You can choose from classics (margherita, pepperoni, etc.) or some more unusual options (blue cheese, prosciutto and fig certainly sounds different!). Toppings can be added or removed as you wish and there’s a great range of veggie and vegan options. And it’s not just pizza! Sides and desserts are on the menu too: check it out here.

Where can I find the Minster Inn?

Minster Inn is opposite the York Museum Gardens, where the Yorkshire Museum, Roman wall ruins and the Medieval St Mary’s Abbey can be found. The River Ouse is nearby. It’s a 10-15-minute walk from York city centre and a 15-minute walk from York train station. If travelling by car, the large Marygate Car Park is less than a 5-minute walk away.
